The Lost Story is a unique and new way to write a fantasy novel. Shaffer introduces a narrator, typically reserved for film, to help more the story along. Although this is mildly unnessisary as the story is told in the third person, it added a uniqueness to the plot that defiantly made me want to keep reading. The story building was strong, although left me wanting a little more descriptiveness. Although there are four characters the story follows, only one gets rounded development. There are points in the plot which were underdeveloped and felt rushed as characters made decisions and actions happened that left me thinking, “wait, did I miss something?”
The end could have been elaborated more, although it was wrapped up nicely. All the big questions are answered, except the thing with the dad- that seemed kind of random but maybe thats just me. Shaffer set herself up for a potential sequel that I would consider reading.
Overall, I was pleased with this read and was an excellent easy but captivating story to come back from a reading hiatus.
